mysterious little creatures

a garden gnome - a miniature hairy man-like being. What a concept. For some strange reason I was thinking about these little guys tonight. I decided a blog was necessary to articulate some of my wonderment.

What is the history of the garden gnome? Who on earth thought up the idea? A little research is in order my friends.. Seriously, check out this web site.. these people are a freaking odd. http://faerie.monstrous.com/gnomes.htm

Gnome facts I came across along my google travels.. it seems they live underground and guard treasures. Maybe that is why they are so enticing to steal.

I was in Ontario visiting my friend one summer, driving around by the lake on a particularly warm summer evening. The poor gnome couldn't be hidden what with his bright colored hat. We stole the little guy right off somebody's property, unbeknownst to them their beloved garden ornament would not be bearing its smiling face the next morning. What the hell we did with it I have no idea. But a cheery shrunken man with excessive amounts of facial hair.. 5 young teenage girls can't help but knick him.

Moral of the story
1) make-believe fairy like statues are not normal for grown ups to own.
2) it seems some people are really into the world of gnomes.
3) I once stole a gnome, probably the only thing I have ever stolen.

...Bri, I know you have this odd fixation with halloween costumes. I urge you to consider the garden gnome as a candidate in the following years.

Is it creepy that I actually own 7 of them? They were a present from my grandma. Currently they sit on my parents deck because I live in the basement but I dream that one day I can put them in a garden of my own, but I fear that 5 giggling teenages will steal them.

you own (at least) 22 nutcrackers by now, so I have to say I'm not suprised to find out you also have garden gnomes. You hide it well behind your hip exterior.

I forgot about superstore.. Well, I haven't stolen anything since I turned 18. I'll blame it on my hellion friends.. they are now all in jail.
