cowboy shout out

oh it's that time again, the 10 days of the year when the good folks of Calgary are dressed up in ridiculous get-ups in hopes of being recognized as a true cowpoke.

Why I love the stampede:

-the city is one big party, everyone recognizes that we are celebrating. There is more tolerance for the stupidity that would normally be scoffed at. Even the old grumps laugh it off.
-face it, cowboy hats are hot.
-the chuckwagon races. They are BY FAR my fave part of the whole affair. There is nothing quite like them. If you haven't experienced them, do it, and do it asap! Buddy Bensmiller for life yo'!
-work is slack. Everyone just wants to leave early for the closest beer on a patio.
-creepy carnies "operating" the midway rides.
-the hypnotist - even though I think it's a big joke and people just fake it, it gets me everytime..
-COUNTRY MUSIC.. I freaking loveeeee it.
-fireworks. Luckily Cali doesn't have any islands to burn down. Smoooooth Oak Bay, realll smooth.

the best part this year is that Benine is coming... tomorrow til next wednesday! I haven't seen her in over TWO months.. Ohhh there will be shit to be disturbed, and we'll disturb it in true style..
