the countdown to '07 is on..

since I am such a big fan of countdowns I thought I'd take a little time to find out how far away we are from the ever festive new years' eve.. 45 sleeps people, get your drinking hat on, whatever that may be. My last new years was so boring it doesn't even get mention in this post.. the one before that was spent in the streets of downtown Banff in, I shit you not, -30 degree iciness. I hugged the giant champagne bottle close for empty comfort. The Corbett girls were pissed, as you can see, we had a good time. This coming new years' eve will be celebrated in new form. But before the new tradition comes the old. Our family puts on a brunch for around 70 friends. There will be 2 cases of champagne chilled (hopefully outside in the snow) and the mimosas will be flowing. I have never once been drunk for the new years' brunch, I leave that up to the olds, and I have to say they do a freaking good job. Last year the "brunch" went until about 7 o'clock, just in time for people to move to their next venue to ring in 2006.

This year we will welcome 2007 from the hot tub. The Corbett's and each of their significant other's will be there - Mom and Dad, Alistair and Chantal, Cesca and James, me and that Gregg boy. Each couple is cooking one of the meals. My parents are doing the appys, the sister and James are doing the main course, Bri and myself are in charge of the dessert - I'm thinking cheesecake - and the bro and Chantal are in charge of the midnight snack. The best part is we are doing it all in our pajamas. We are having a secret santa gift exchange - each person has to buy the name they chose a pair of PJ's and a funky champagne glass. Let's hope whoever gets me has good taste.

I have to say I'm pretty excited, much more excited than past new years'. The overrated parties always end up sucking for me. Spending a fun evening with the family playing games like cranium and hanging out in the hot tub sounds much more tempting. Since 7 is my favorite number I have a feeling 2007 will be a good year... Indeed.

I love holiday traditions. My family always went bowling (which turned into The Taaffe Tournament and included about 30 of us even though my family is 4). But now Mayfair Lanes closed down. NO!
So I think we may have to start a new tradition. Something to do with me, starring me and featuring me. Perhaps a concert where Kelli sings the Christmas Hits...it's a work in progress.

personally I am not a big bowling fan.. but I sympathize and feel your pain Kelli..

bowling brings people together, what will all of Victoria and the surrounding area do without it?

the effects may be devestating.

WHAT? Mayfair Lanes = dunzo? That is perhaps sadder than having a cold, dental surgery and the flue all in one week. OMG. There goes the venue for many fun junior high Friday nights. Sad. So sad. Funny thing is...I don't think I ever actually bowled there.

Your New Years plans sound fantastic...I'm so jealous!

And by "flue", I meant "flu".
